Jobs and Skills Australia 2025-26 Work Plan Public Consultation

Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) is a national advisory body that provides independent advice to the Australian Government on current and emerging workforce needs. It is not a Skills Council itself. Instead, JSA works closely with Jobs and Skills Councils (JSCs)—sector-specific, industry-led organisations considered the "skills councils" within the national training system. These JSCs provide insights and data that help inform JSA’s national skills strategies.

The current consultation process relates to the development of JSA’s 2025–26 Work Plan, which sets out the key areas JSA will focus on in the coming year. This review is about determining priorities for future activity and does not yet represent any confirmed government action or funding.

For the auto glazing industry, this presents an important opportunity. If Automotive Glazing is included in the Work Plan and accepted as part of JSA’s priorities, it could lead to the occupation being listed on the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL). Inclusion on the CSOL would support Australian businesses in applying for work VISAs to recruit qualified auto glaziers from overseas.

It is important to note that this is distinct from the National Skills Needs List (NSNL). Listing on the NSNL is necessary for employers to access incentives for apprentices undertaking the AUR32220 Certificate III in Automotive Glazing Technology.

However, inclusion on the CSOL would provide a strong foundation for advocating that Automotive Glazing also be reinstated on the NSNL. For these reasons, industry support and engagement in the submission process are essential.
