Member Update - Motor dealers and repairers act amendment (tradesperson certificates) regulations 2020 NSW.

    To our NSW Members

We are writing to update you about amendments to the Motor Dealers and Repairers Regulation 2014 that introduces the Repair Class for glazing work (automotive) as at the 1 November 2021.

In 2020 the AGA played an integral part in fighting for the rights of our members, in the better interest of the industry.

And as a result, we were able to obtain a deferred timeline to 1st November 2021 for the introduction of the new regulatory and licensing requirements in NSW.

The deferred date was granted to allow members of our industry to obtain the necessary Cert ll qualification which was not previously available.

To be eligible for the trades persons certificate Auto glaziers will need to have completed the relevant trade qualification AUR20916 Certificate ll in Automotive Body Repair Technology - Glazing Stream or AUR32216 Cert lll in Automotive Glazing Technology .

The AUR20916 Cert ll in Automotive Body Repair Technology - Glazing Stream was released for enrolments by TAFE NSW on the 30 October 2020.

It has been highlighted by the AGA that within our industry there are several Auto Glaziers who already hold different but applicable qualifications such as the Certificate ll Automotive Vehicle Body (Vehicle Glazing) and these have not been recognised in the new regulation.

With an aim, to protect our experienced industry members the AGA asked for consideration to include these obsolete qualifications as a prescribed qualification (in addition to the newly released AUR20916 Certificate ll qualification).

NSW Department of Fair Trade have advised the AGA that "an amendment to the Regulation will be needed to include these obsolete training packages and insert older qualifications for glazing work that were not previously prescribed such as the " Certificate ll Automotive Vehicle Body (Vehicle Glazing) "

The NSW Department of Fair Trade has commenced work to make these changes as soon as possible to allow industry members to obtain the correct qualifications. "

We are also seeking amendments to allow an unqualified trades person to complete repair work under the supervision of an individual who holds a current tradesperson certificate, as this has not been previously prescribed.

The AGA is aware that there are several of our members who have completed both Cert ll and Cert lll qualifications in Auto Glazing under various training packages in the past. We encourage anyone who holds a certificate from an obsolete training package to forward a copy to the AGA at info@autoglass.org.au.

This will assist us in identifying all obsolete packages that may need to be included in future amendments.
