In response to the Strategic Review of the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System, the AGA lodged a submission on behalf of the industry, emphasizing the urgent need to recognise and address the skills shortages within the auto glass industry.
Key points of our submission include:
Industry Representation:
The AGA represents a diverse group of stakeholders, including small independents and major industry players such as O'Brien Glass Industries Limited, Instant Windscreens, and others.
Skills Shortage:
There is a critical shortage of technicians certified with a Certificate III in Automotive Glazing Technology (AUR322200), which is essential for meeting the growing demand for skilled services in our sector.
Lack of Recognition:
Currently, auto glazing has not been acknowledged on the Skills Priority List, and accordingly, training for this critical skill is excluded from support in Phase 2 of the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System.
Impact on Small Businesses:
This oversight significantly impacts our small business members who depend on skilled auto glaziers to expand and sustain their operations.
We are actively advocating for better recognition and support to ensure the competitiveness of the auto glass industry. We will continue to keep you informed on any developments and appreciate your support as we address these critical industry issues.
